Roads Safety Awareness Session

On Wednesday, 21st May 2025, the NUMS Department of Student Affairs (DSA), in collaboration with NUMS Civic Society and Atlas Honda Islamabad, successfully organized a Road Safety Awareness Session at the NUMS PWD Campus. The session aimed to educate students about road safety, traffic rules, and responsible driving behaviors to reduce road accidents and promote public safety.

 

The event began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the National Anthem of Pakistan, setting a respectful and dignified tone for the session.

The session featured two distinguished speakers:

  • Mr. Asif Javed Khwaja (Retired Commander, Pakistan Navy)
    A dedicated safety volunteer for over two decades, Mr. Khwaja is a respected member of the Think Tank at Rescue 1122 and one of the founding members of Women on Wheels (WoW). He was invited to deliver the opening remarks. In his address, he shared valuable insights into the importance of road safety from both personal and national perspectives. Emphasizing civic responsibility, he discussed the role of citizens in reducing road accidents through informed and cautious behavior.
  • Mr. Usman Afzal (Manager Safety, Atlas Honda Limited)
    A mechanical engineer with an MBA in Marketing from IBA, University of the Punjab, Mr. Afzal has been a road safety volunteer since 2006. He delivered an engaging and interactive presentation focused on the causes and prevention of road accidents. Through real-time analysis, he explored various accident scenarios and involved students by asking questions throughout the session. Participants who answered correctly were rewarded with giveaways, making the session lively and participatory.

 

Brig. Muhammad Asif Chattha (Retired) Director Student Affairs was invited to deliver the closing remarks. He appreciated the collaboration with Atlas Honda and praised the educational value of the session. He appreciated the practical knowledge and interactive format of the session which served as a meaningful initiative toward building a more safety-conscious and responsible youth community. Following him, Ms. Saira Javed, Convener of NUMS Civic Society, acknowledged the efforts of the Civic Society Cabinet for organizing the event and highlighted the importance of continued awareness campaigns on road safety.

 

The session concluded with the awarding of certificates of appreciation to the NUMS Civic Society Cabinet for their contributions in successfully arranging the event. A group photo was taken to mark the occasion.
