Quality Assurance (QA) Directorate conducted its first orientation workshop on ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) for the Quality co-ordinators duly nominated by all the directorates and management entities across NUMS on 9th September 2018. The session started with the recitation of a passage from the Holy Quran. The purpose of the orientation was to give a complete overview of the ISO 9001:2015 and QMS mechanism to the Quality representatives for a trickle-down effect.
After formal introduction of 37 participants, they were briefed about the objectives and ground rules for the training session. A pre and post-test was also conducted to evaluate the learning progress rate of the participants. In an introductory session, participants were briefed that different organisations around the globe adopt QMS standards to ensure their quality of services by complying with these standards and continually, improve their processes and likewise committed employees of NUMS, are being developed to adopt Quality as their core and primary responsibility.
An Internal Resource Person being ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 9001:2015 (QMS standard) qualified Lead Auditor conducted the workshop, who delivered a detailed insight of the ISO standards. Previously, QA Directorate had shared ISO related documents like ISO 9001:2015 guidelines, brochure and implementation plan, etc. with each directorate for the general information about ISO standards.
Director QA shared her thoughts and way forward for implementation and achievement of ISO certification in NUMS as part of VC NUMS’ vision and directives, and assured support and facilitation to all the directorates towards smooth implementation of the ISO standards. Provost QA/RD emphasized the importance of quality through capacity building and improving the process of the organisation. He stressed on the development of sustainable mechanism and documentation for the effective and smooth functioning of the secretariat.
Pro-VC NUMS elaborated the benefits of complying with ISO standards and its ultimate impact on the organisational processes. He reiterated on the fact that journey towards excellence has started and each member of NUMS is now responsible to work for achieving, maintaining and sustaining quality in their respective domain. He, however, advised the quality representatives to play their role effectively and ensure smooth compliance of the standards without compromising at any stage for any reason.
