As the final semester draws to a close, NUMS’ outgoing students find themselves experiencing a whirlwind of emotions. For some, it marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter, while for others, it signifies the conclusion of shared adventures, collective escapades, and cherished memories with friends. A university student is much more than just a learner—they wear many hats. First and foremost, they are a part of the university itself, followed by their respective department. Those who immerse themselves in extracurricular activities become integral members of various clubs and societies. Similarly, a hosteller is not merely a resident but someone deeply connected to the hostel community. Graduation, therefore, is not simply a farewell to the institution but also a heartfelt goodbye to these meaningful bonds and identities.
With all this comes the farewell party, where students get together and party with their seniors, classmates, friends and teachers one last time. University faculty and juniors bid adieu to the passing out students in a grand manner as they welcomed them in their first semester.
As part of an annual tradition, the NUMS Department of Student Affairs organized a farewell and welcome dinner at Topi Rakh. Students from all the courses and AFPGMI attended the event where juniors do everything possible to make their seniors feel special. The function started with a recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the National Anthem. The Director of Student Affairs formally welcomed the students and faculty, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the DSA team and the students of the drama, music, and debating clubs for organizing this remarkable event. In his address, he extended his best wishes to the graduating students, assuring them that NUMS would always remain a home to return to while also extending a warm welcome to the new batch. The evening was alive with excitement and color as students and faculty arrived dressed in their finest attire and were, in a way, quite emotional since it was the end of their university life. The program featured a variety of performances, including cultural dances, poetry, parodies, songs, qawwali and jokes. Stealing the limelight on the stage are some faculty members who didn’t shy away from shaking a leg to create endearing moments with students. From cultural dance performances to poetry, they did it all to make it a special occasion for students. At the end, each senior was given a title depending on their personality, and then they all posed for the group photo.
The farewell is more like a tradition in NUMS. Students were overwhelmed with emotions as it was the last celebration of their university life. All students and faculty agreed that it was an impressive evening, and we will all miss it throughout our lives. In the end, all students and faculty said that we couldn’t have a better farewell than this and appreciated the efforts of the DSA team for making it a special and endearing event for them.
