Institutional Performance Evaluation (IPE) and Internal Postgraduate Program Reviews (IPPR) of the Higher Education Institutions(HEI’s) on yearly basis, either by HEC or University itself. HEC had conducted an IPE of NUMS in March 2018 (Valid for 3 years), just two years after the establishment of NUMS.
In wake of Covid -19 Pandemic, IPE/SIPE in most HEIs including NUMS could not be carried out. Hence, HEC asked the HEIs to conduct Self IPE and Internal Program Review before 31st March, 2021 and develop comprehensive compliance reports and also conduct self-Revisit by 30th June, 2021 to assess the improvements and report the same in Yearly Progress Report (YPR).
In order to meet this target, NUMS QA Dte prepared two separate University Portfolio Reports (UPRs) for the years 2019-20 & 2020-21 and organized a two-day consolidated SIPE and IPPR Visit on Feb 01-02, 2021.
For this purpose, a Review Panel comprising of following was constituted: Director Academics, Prof Dr. Dilshad Ahmed Khan SI(M) (Retd), Chairperson, Director QA Dte, Air Cdre Muhammad Ismail SI(M) (Retd), Director Academics (Clinical), Prof Dr Aamir Shahzad, and Assistant Director QA, Dr Erum Monis, (member / secretary).
Director Quality Assurance, Brig Engr Salim Ahmed Khan SI(M) (Retd), Ripha International University (RIU) was invited by NUMS as External Quality Expert along with Mr Fawad Sadiq, Deputy Director QA, RIU.
The review panel started their first day proceedings with the formal opening meeting by sharing the agenda points and plan for review of 11 standards of IPE elucidated in the NUMS UPRs. The Panel cross checked the evidences, the University wide data. An in-depth program review of NUMS academic programs was also done, including validation of Student files and faculty dossiers maintained by the NUMS Academic Directorates.
In the closing meeting of day one, Provost QA, RD & Academics, Prof Dr Syed Mahmood Raza was apprised on the review panel’s day long activities.
On day 2, the SIPE Team visited the NUMS’ Constituent Institutions; the Army Medical College (AM College) and the Armed Forces Post Graduate Medical Institute (AFPGMI). At both places, the panel met with the Heads of the Institution and Departments’ Heads. A thoroughly exclusive feedback session with the faculty and students, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level to learn about their comfort and further requirements if any.
On return to NUMS Secretariat, the Panel, after an internal meeting, met with the NUMS Senior Management, the Pro VC (Academics), Maj Gen Saleem Ahmed Khan HI(M) (Retd), Pro VC Administration Maj. Gen Syed Ammar Raza Hamdani HI(M) (Retd) and Provost (QA, RD &Acad) for a formal exit meeting to share a brief on the salient aspects of the two-day long activity.
The revered external expert appreciated NUMS and its Constituent Institutions for having state of the art infrastructure and well maintained documentation. However, he also highlighted certain areas that could be further improved based on the meticulous review by the panel members and feedback collected from students and faculty.
