The NUMS Inter-College Sports Championship took place from 17 Feb to 22 Feb 2025 in a festive and jubilant manner. This Championship featured four events: boys' and girls' cricket and girls' singles and doubles badminton. The organizers divided the teams into two zones: North and South. The North Zone included teams from Army Medical College, NUMS, Wah Medical College, and HITEC Institute of Medical Sciences. The South Zone featured teams from CMH Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) Multan, CMH Lahore Medical and Dental College, CMH Lahore Nursing College, CIMS Bahawalpur, and Karachi Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS).
Army Medical College hosted the North Zone matches in Rawalpindi, while CIMS Multan organized the South Zone matches. Army Medical College won boys' and girls' cricket and singles badminton in the North Zone, while HITEC Institute of Medical Sciences secured the doubles badminton title. In the South Zone, CIMS Multan triumphed in boys' and girls' cricket and doubles badminton, while CMH Lahore Medical and Dental College won singles badminton.
The finals took place in Rawalpindi on 22 Feb, with Army Medical College competing against CIMS Multan in both girls' and boys' cricket, CIMS Multan facing HITEC Institute of Medical Sciences in doubles badminton, and CMH Lahore Medical and Dental College playing against Army Medical College in singles badminton. Army Medical College won the finals of both boys' and girls' cricket and singles badminton, and CIMS Multan won the doubles badminton. This event emphasized the importance of co-curricular activities in the holistic development of students, recognizing the importance of sports and physical activity in nurturing well-rounded individuals, aligning closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 5: Gender Equality, and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities. At the heart of the event was a commitment to promoting camaraderie, fair play, and healthy competition. Participants showcased their abilities and dedication to teamwork, discipline, and perseverance, embodying the values that define the spirit of sportsmanship.
Vice-Chancellor NUMS, Lieutenant General Wasim Alamgir, HI(M), Retired, attended as the Chief Guest, joined by Pro Vice-Chancellors, directors, faculty members, staff, and many students. In his address, he highlighted the vital role of sports in shaping lives, improving physical and mental well-being, and instilling values such as discipline, hard work, patience, respect, and teamwork.
"I am happy that all students, especially girls, have made immense effort to make this event successful," he said. "It is important to remember that sports are not solely about winning or losing. The true essence of participation in sports lies in gaining valuable experience, fostering camaraderie, and embracing the spirit of sportsmanship. Whether you win or not, you all are winners, and I am happy that students from all NUMS colleges participated in this Championship with zeal, dedication, and enthusiasm."
He congratulated the winners, acknowledging they had set an admirable benchmark for other institutions. Despite not securing a win, he also commended the participants who performed excellently.
He also expressed his heartfelt gratitude and thanked CIMS Multan for organizing South Zone matches and Army Medical College for organizing North Zone matches and providing administrative support for this final event. "The tireless efforts and coordination of the Department of Student Affairs deserve my deepest appreciation", he said.
In the end, prizes and shields were distributed to the tournament's best players.
