INTER-COLLEGE DECLAMATION CONTEST - 2025

As part of 10 year celebrations, National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) organized the NUMS Inter College Declamation Contest on February 26, 2025, at Army Medical College Rawalpindi. Eleven teams from NUMS constituent and affiliated medical, dental, and nursing colleges participated in the event, comprising of both declamation components: prepared speeches and extempore.

 

Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academics) NUMS, Maj Gen Farrukh Saeed, HI(M), (Retired), graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Principals of Army Medical College Rawalpindi and CMH Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) Multan and Director Academics of CMH Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) Bahawalpur were also present at the event. Many students from different constituents, affiliated colleges, HoDs, and faculty members attended the event at the Ayub Auditorium of Army Medical College.

 

The event began with recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, followed by the National Anthem of Pakistan. On behalf of the Vice-Chancellor NUMS, Lt Gen Wasim Alamgir, HI(M), (Retired), the master of the ceremony, welcomed the esteemed judges, guests, participants, and students. She then presented an overview of the contest rules. Each participant was allowed 4 to 5 minutes, and the judges evaluated them based on content, pronunciation, and delivery. The highest aggregate marks determined the overall winner.

 

A total of 40 students participated in the contest and delivered speeches in two rounds. The first round comprised prepared speeches in English and Urdu, while the second round featured extempore speeches in both languages.

 

At the end of the competition, Army Medical College team was declared the winner, while CMH Lahore Medical College team secured the runner-up position. Students also received individual prizes for first and second positions in both categories: English and Urdu prepared speeches and extempore.

 

In his closing remarks, the Chief Guest commended the participants for their powerful speeches. He highlighted that this contest is not just a competition of words but a platform where intellect, eloquence, and passion converge—an opportunity to learn, grow, and be inspired by diverse viewpoints. He emphasized the importance of respect, high moral standards, and the role of the younger generation in shaping the future. He also thanked the esteemed panel of judges for their valuable insights and also thanked the Principal of Army Medical College and his team for the support in organizing the event in a befitting manner. He especially appreciated the Department of Student Affairs team for successfully organizing the contest.
