NUMS Observes Kashmir Black Day in Solidarity with the People of Kashmir

Every year, 27th October is commemorated globally as Kashmir Black Day, marking the tragic day in 1947 when India, without any legal justification, forcibly occupied the State of Jammu and Kashmir. Since that unlawful occupation, the Indian forces have continued to subject the innocent Kashmiri people to oppression, violence, destruction, and severe human rights violations.

To express solidarity with the people of Kashmir and to highlight their continued struggle for the right to self-determination, the National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) observed Kashmir Black Dayon Monday, 27th October 2025. The event was organized by the Department of Student Affairs (DSA) in collaboration with the NUMS Debating Club (NDC) and was attended by faculty members, administrative staff, and a large number of students. The observance reaffirmed NUMS’ unwavering commitment to standing by the Kashmiri people in their just and rightful cause.

The program began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the National Anthem. Members of the NUMS Debating Club delivered powerful speeches and presentations emphasizing the historical significance of 27th October — the day that marked the beginning of India’s illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir. The speakers highlighted the ongoing suffering of the Kashmiri people under curfews, excessive use of force, and denial of basic human rights. The event also featured engaging TED-style talks by students that provided both historical context and international perspectives on the Kashmir issue.

Brig Imran Hussain, SI(M), (Retd), Director Student Affairs, in his closing remarks, underlined the importance of observing Kashmir Black Dayand lauded the efforts of the organizing committee and student participants for their thoughtful contributions to the cause.

The observance concluded with a Solidarity Walk, during which participants carried banners expressing unity with the Kashmiri people and condemning the ongoing atrocities in the occupied valley.
