
To pay tribute to the unwavering sacrifices and invaluable services of the Pakistan Armed Forces, National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) has organized an Inter-Colleges Creative Art Competition under the theme Marka-e-Haq for its Constituent and Affiliated Medical, Dental, Nursing and Allied Health Sciences Colleges. Themes for the competition were; National Unity, Strength in Defense, Support to Armed Forces, Peace Advocacy, Digital Warfare, National Response, Emotions and resolve against enemy, Spiritual Struggle, Water Terrorism and Terrorism Victimization.
The subject competition was started on 30 May 2025 and the last date of submission of entries was 30 June 2025. Artwork of 111 students of NUMS constituent and affiliated medical, dental, nursing and allied health sciences colleges was received, out of which artwork of 56 students was shortlisted on the basis of given themes. To ensure fairness and impartiality, these artworks were subsequently evaluated by an independent panel of external judges. The entire evaluation process was conducted on an anonymized basis, with no disclosure of participants’ identity and institutional affiliation.
The Final Ceremony of NUMS Creative Art Competition was held on 29 August 2025 at NUMS Institute of Advance Studies and Research (NIASR), Rawalpindi. Lt Gen Arshad Nasim, HI(M), Surgeon General / DGMS (IS) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The event began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the National Anthem of Pakistan.
After the formal proceedings, the Surgeon General visited the Art Gallery where the shortlisted 56 paintings were displayed. He was accompanied by the University leadership.
In his welcome address Vice Chancellor NUMS Lt Gen Wasim Alamgir, HI(M), (Retired), said that your presence is both an inspiration and a source of pride for us.
The Vice Chancellor said this event is more than an artistic display. It is a heartfelt tribute to the courage and sacrifice of our soldiers. Our students, through their creativity, have shown that patriotism also lives in the hearts and expressions of our youth. He said at NUMS we take pride in fostering not only academic excellence but also national spirit and values. May the memory of our martyrs endure, may our students continue to shine, and may Pakistan always rise in dignity and strength.
In his speech, the Surgeon General said that he was grateful to the Vice Chancellor for his kind words and warm welcome. “It is a privilege to be at NUMS, an institution that embodies discipline, academic excellence, and service to the nation”. He said that today’s event, themed on Operation Marka-e-Haq, had left him deeply inspired. The students had shown that patriotism can be expressed not only on the battlefield but also through art, creativity, and reflection. Each painting and calligraphic piece was more than an artwork; it was a heartfelt tribute to the courage and sacrifice of our Armed Forces. He said Marka-e-Haq was not just a military operation, it was a symbol of unity, resilience, and determination to defend our homeland. He expressed pride in seeing these values alive in the hearts of our youth.
At the end, he commended the Vice Chancellor, faculty, and organizers for giving students a platform to connect with history and express it with pride. He said to the students that their talent is remarkable, but it is their sense of purpose, that truly makes it meaningful. Let patriotism remain their compass in whichever path they choose. The legacy of Marka-e-Haq lives on through the youth of Pakistan. He expressed full faith that this legacy is in capable and committed hands.
The ceremony concluded with the awarding of prizes to the three position holders. First position was secured by Qurat Ul Ain Mehmod, student of 7th Semester, Department of Psychology NUMS. Second position was secured by Rida Irfan, student of MBBS third year, Army Medical College, and third position was secured by Laraib Siddique, student of MBBS Final Year, Wah Medical College. At the end, a group photo of all the winners was taken with the Chief Guest to mark the occasion.
