NUMS STUDENTS DELEGATION VISITS INSTITUTE OF STRATEGIC STUDIES ISLAMABAD

A student delegation of NUMS Civic Society (NCS), led by Ms. Saira Javed Lecturer, Department of Psychology(NDP) and Convener (NCS) visited the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) on its invitation for an interactive session on Sustainable Developmental Goals (SDGs) in Pakistan, on March 20 ,2023.

 

The members of NCS discussed and sought guidance from ISSI board of directors as to how they could seek collaboration of the national and international institutions to set up Dialysis Café in medical university and Persons With Disability Center.  Student leaders Muhammad Mukarram Bin Afzal, and Salwa Nadeem also shared their field experience in mental health and social working. They highlighted the areas of implementation of policy and revisions in health policy. It was for the first time that students from a medical university approached ISSI to seek its cooperation.

 

During the visit Dr. Arshad, Director India Study Center (ISC), ISSI briefed the delegation about ISC functions. Dr. Neelam Nigar, Director Center for Strategic Perspective (CSP), ISSI appreciated NUMS Civic Society projects and its work on Sustainable Developmental Goals (SDGs). Mr. Abide Hussain, Deputy Director Library, ISSI on the occasion offered ISSI library services to NUMS delegation for research on sustainable developmental goals in South Asia.

 

The delegation was briefed by Research Associate ISSI Ms. Umme e Farwa about its functions and various centers and explained that how they are working with internationally recognized institutes which could help NCS for forging collaborations with other stakeholders.

 

The convener NUMS NCS Ms, Saira Javed apprised  ISSI officials of projects like “NUMS Kidney Kindred Kinship: Kidney Care”, (a project to provide psycho social support to kidney care patients, caregivers, paramedic and non- paramedical  staff),  “NUMS Red Ray: Blood Donation” ( a project which exclusively work on networking of blood donors nationwide)  and “Daring not Deprived”  (a project which aims to work for inclusivity of persons with different disabilities along with psycho socio support), were initiated  to meet Sustainable Developmental Goals (SDGs).

 

NUMS students are working on top two priority sets of SDGs  of  Pakistan which included  good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality,  Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure,   sustainable Cities and Communities and partnerships to achieve the goal.

 

 During the Interactive session with students, internship opportunities at ISSI for students of psychology department were also discussed. They can help provide a better working environment by counseling the staff about time management, trauma, stress, and grief.

 

During delegation’s visit to Balochistan Board of Investment and trading, Islamabad Ms. Saira Javed gave presentation on NUMS Civic Society projects to member of Board of Investment (BOI), Mr. Shumail Zahid, Regional Coordinator and Chief Adminiter’s Office (BOI).  During the meeting the importance of mental health and possibility of recruiting the mental health professionals/ psychologist in BOI was discussed.
