NUMS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH ORGANIZED CHQPS INAUGURAL CEREMONY AND 5 DAYS FACE TO FACE SESSION (CHQPS BATCH I- FALL 2024)

NUMS Department of Public Health conducted an Inaugural Ceremony and five days of face-to-face sessions for the Certificate in Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety (CHQPS) Batch one, Fall 2024 cohort. Held at the NUMS PWD campus from 21-25 October 2024, this program ran daily from 0845-1600 hrs. 

 

CHQPS is a six-month Certificate Course initiated by the NUMS Department of Public Health. It aims to develop Specialists who will support improving Quality of Healthcare Delivery with an emphasis on Inter Professional Collaboration and Education (IPCE) through inculcation of Professional ethical values and norms. This course focused on equipping participants with a comprehensive understanding of Quality improvement methodologies, clinical governance, and leadership.

 

On Day 1- Dr. Nasir Javed (Course Coordinator) led the sessions, featuring Prof. Dr. Mati ur Rehman (Dean, Allied Health Sciences, HSA) on the fundamentals of healthcare quality and patient safety. Later, Mr. Zeeshan Ali (Senior Quality Analyst at Shifa International Hospital) discussed medication management.

 

On Day 2- Maj Gen Muhammad Aleem (R) delivered insights on improving patient outcomes through enhanced safety and service standards. At the same time, Ms. Afifa Munnawar (WHO Technical Officer) highlighted WHO’s role in patient safety. Dr. Nasir Javed also introduced the importance of international patient safety goals.

 

On Day 3- Dr. Yasser Shahzad (Manager, Riphah Healthcare) joined Dr. Nasir Javed to cover audits, quality reviews, and accountability.

 

On Day 4- The Participants toured the Islamabad Healthcare Regulatory Authority and Shifa International Hospital, gaining real-world insights into healthcare regulations and practices.

 

On Day 5- Lt Gen Wasim Alamgir, HI (M), (R), Vice-Chancellor NUMS graced the event. He congratulated all participants, commending their dedication to their personal and academic growth. Participants were encouraged to embrace the course as an invaluable step towards achieving their goals and making meaningful contributions to their fields. Maj Gen Farrukh Saeed, HI(M), (R); Pro VC Academics NUMS, Prof Dr Aisha Mohyuddin; Dean Multidisciplinary Studies NUMS, Brig. Muhammad Naveed Khan (R); Director Administration NUMS PWD, Brig. Muhammad Asif Chattha (R), Director of Student Affairs NUMS, also graced the event on the concluding day. Dr. Babar Saeed Khan; Director Clinical Trial Unit NUMS, discussed change management in quality improvement on the final day.

 

Prof. Dr. Uzma Hassan (HOD Public Health) gave a vote of thanks and awarded souvenirs to the guest speakers. She also congratulated the DPH team: Dr. Tamkeen Jaffry (Associate Professor), Dr. Hina Shan (Assistant Professor), Dr. Raima Asif (Assistant Professor), Ms. Rubab Zulfiqar (Lecturer), Dr. Nasir Javed (Lecturer), and all participants for their engagement and contributions. In the end, she also appreciated the Digital Technologies Directorate, Administration Directorate, Public Affairs Directorate, and Student Affairs Directorate for providing a conducive environment facilitating the successful conduction of this event.
