INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

The NUMS Department of Student Affairs, in collaboration with the Federal Ombudsperson Secretariat for Protection Against Harassment at Workplace (FOSPAH), organized a seminar on March 8th, 2024, at the PWD Campus to celebrate International Women's Day (IWD) and raise awareness about FOSPAH's mandate. With over 70 attendees, including Principal AHSs Brigadier (R) Shazia Sarwar, directors of various directorates, students, staff, and esteemed faculty members, the event focused on this year's theme, 'Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,' aligning with SDG 5 to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

 

Ms. Sara Shafiq, lecturer in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences, hosted the event, welcoming distinguished speakers Mr. Arif Karim, Secretary of FOSPAH, and Ms. Maher Jami, Law Officer of FOSPAH. The session commenced with reciting the Holy Quran, followed by the National Anthem. Mr. Arif Karim provided an overview of FOSPAH's commitment to fostering harassment-free workplaces. He emphasized the significance of creating a secure environment that is free from abuse, violence, intimidation, and discrimination. Ms. Maher Jami explained the laws related to harassment of women and property disputes. Brigadier (R) Shazia Sarwar then outlined the Anti Sexual Harassment Committee of NUMS. The session concluded with a question and answer session.

 

At the end of the event, Brigadier (R) Muhammad Asif Chattha, the Director of Student Affairs, expressed his gratitude towards the distinguished guests for their valuable contributions to the event's success. He thanked all the participants and organizers for their tireless efforts. Souvenirs, including NUMS shields, were presented to the guests, and a group photograph was taken to commemorate the event.
