A SEMINAR ON “SOW THE SEEDS OF CHANGE: HARNESSING PULSES FOR GLOBAL WELLNESS AND HARMONY “ORGANIZED BY THE NUMS DEPARTMENT OF AVANT HEALTH INITIATIVES AT THE PWD CAMPUS

The Department of Avant Health Initiatives at NUMS convened an awareness seminar on February 27th, 2024, at the PWD Campus. The event drew approximately 60 attendees, including distinguished figures like the Pro VC (Academics) NUMS, the Deans of Multidisciplinary Studies and Social Sciences of Health, the Director of Avant Health Initiatives and Lifestyle Medicine, and esteemed faculty members.

 

Dr. Ammara Khanum, Demonstrator from the LSM Dept. of NUMS, delivered the welcome address, underscoring the importance of pulses in nutrition and acknowledging the pivotal role of AHI & LSM Dept. NUMS in promoting healthy lifestyles.

 

Subsequently, Dr. Abdul Momin, Assistant Professor of Nutrition at NUMS, elucidated the "Importance of pulses in our daily life," emphasizing their nutritional richness and environmental benefits, alongside their role in ensuring food security and economic prosperity.

 

Dr. Sumaira Saleem, Demonstrator from LSM Dept. NUMS delved into the "Role of Pulses in Lifestyle Medicine," stressing their significance in disease prevention and overall health enhancement, advocating for their integration into daily diets.

 

Guests of honor, Dr. Aisha Mohyuddin, Dean MDS NUMS, and Dr. Azam Chaudhary, Dean SSH NUMS, emphasized the promotion of preventive medicine and local food choices, highlighting the importance of educating communities on healthy lifestyle habits.

 

In his closing address, the Pro VC (Academics) NUMS emphasized the critical role of lifestyle medicine in addressing the escalating burden of non-communicable diseases, lauding Dr. Omar Zafar Jhagra, Director of AHI & LSM, for organizing the event and expressing optimism for positive societal change.

 

Dr. Omar Zafar Jhagra extended appreciation to all attendees, emphasizing the role of lifestyle medicine in fostering community health and the significance of pulses in promoting healthy living amidst Pakistan's rich biodiversity.

 

Following the seminars, the Chief Guest and guests of honor evaluated posters and healthy cuisine competitions, presenting certificates to the winners. At the end of the event, the organizers took a photograph to commemorate it, capturing faculty, participants, and organizers.
