The National University of Medical Sciences conducted the four-day NUMS Olympiad 2024 from December 30, 2024, to January 02, 2025, celebrating it in a festive and jubilant manner. This event emphasized the importance of co-curricular activities in the holistic development of students, recognizing the importance of sports and physical activity in nurturing well-rounded individuals, aligning closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 5: Gender Equality, and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities. The Director of Student Affairs inaugurated the NUMS Olympiad 2024, and a large number of students, faculty and staff members attended it. In his address, he highlighted the importance of co-curricular activities in the curriculum. He said that Vice-Chancellor Lt Gen Wasim Alamgir, HI(M), Retd, urged that girls should also participate in sports to exhibit their energies, talent and potential and advised the students to participate in all events with a sportsman spirit and maintain discipline during the whole event. The event featured a variety of games, including Cricket, Badminton, Table Tennis, Futsal, Tug of War, Athletics, Ludo, and Carrum.
NUMS Olympiad 2024 showcased vibrant talent with a range of competitive and recreational activities, including sports, debating, a cultural dress show, and drama. Students from all departments actively participated in various events, demonstrating their skills and sportsmanship.
During the week-long extravaganza, students actively participated in a diverse array of activities. The NUMS Olympiad provided a platform for students to showcase their talents and create lasting memories. The university demonstrated its commitment to holistic student development by recognizing the importance of sports and other extracurricular activities in nurturing well-rounded individuals. At the heart of the event, participants promoted camaraderie, fair play, and healthy competition. Participants showcased not only their abilities but also their dedication to teamwork, discipline, and perseverance, embodying the values that define the spirit of sportsmanship.
The director of Student Affairs expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Department and various clubs and societies, particularly the NUMS Sports Club, in conducting this event. He assured them of his full support in promoting a culture of physical activities within the institution. He further emphasized that sports and co-curricular activities significantly contribute to the overall grooming and personality development of students. In the end, the organizers presented trophies to the winning teams and individual players.
