Climate Change is one of the most pressing environmental issues in the world. In recent years, Pakistan has experienced severe weather conditions, such as floods, droughts, and heat waves, which have caused significant damage to the environment and the economy. To tackle this problem, it is essential to encourage environment-friendly practices in university students, who are the future leaders of the country.
The key objectives of the event were: to educate the student about the importance of recycling and to share ideas about plastic, paper and glass recycling, enlighten them about composting and to learn the methods of turning food waste into nutrient-rich soil. Another objective was to create a sense of inclusivity in students through interacting at stalls including Cooked & Baked item stalls, Jewelry stalls (Eco-friendly), Eco-Friendly item stalls (cutlery, water bottles, re-used shirts, tote bags), Sketch and Painting stalls (Reused paper, Recycled Canvases) and other creative stalls to be managed by students from different societies.
The enthusiastic Eco Learners of both NUMS and Armed Forces Postgraduate Medical Institute (AFPGMI) set up their stalls including waste to wonder, shop green, Jewells by momii, door to green world cuisine, pasta la vista, candles of concord, farm to table, eco-oasis, eco-builders, best out of waste, it starts with you, sounds green to me, green pages, green tourism, Panipuri stall, let’s play clean and burger fest.
There were strict rules for stall registration and participation for example to provide reusable or compostable materials, to use compost bins, to encourage attendees to bring their containers and to recycle as much as possible to practice zero waste policy at NUMS.
The stalls were open for sale. In the end, the judges including Patron GYM, Prof. Dr Azam Chaudhary and GYM oversight committee members including Ms Sara Shafiq and Dr Wasim Sajjad announced the winners of Green Day.
