National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) conducted its fourth round of annual Self- Institutional Performance Evaluation (IPE) on March 14-16 2023. The self-review process was organized and facilitated by the Quality Assurance Directorate of NUMS.
HEC had conducted NUMS First ever IPE in March 2018, and since then NUMS has been conducting its Self IPEs.
The prime objective of the IPE was to self-evaluate the performance of the university based on 11 quality standards mentioned in IPE manual of HEC. The panel comprised of four members, one external expert, Dr. Farrukh Idrees, Director QEC, National Defense University, Islamabad and three internal members including Brig Dr. Amir Rashid, Head of Biochemistry Department and Head LQEC (AM College), Air Cdre Muhammad Ismail, SI (M) (Retd), Consultant Quality Assurance and Dr. Erum Monis Deputy Director(DD) QA.
The Self-IPE activities commenced with detailed presentation by the DD QA on NUMS programs, polices, procedure and QA activities. The NUMS University Portfolio Report 2022-23 had already been presented to the panel members prior to the SIPE visit. Thereafter, the panel members reviewed the compliance report of the previous year followed by the reviewing of program files, faculty files, and students’ dossiers of all NUMS departments.
On the second day, the IPE panel members held meetings with Deans, Head of Departments, Faculty members and Students to examine the academic activities and recorded their live feedback at NUMS Main Campus at PWD. The panel inspected the facilities available on campus, by visiting the laboratories, classrooms and library and commended the rapid growth of the university with initiation of several new programs including two new PhD programs at NUMS.
Later, the panel dedicated time for discussion on SIPE findings, report consolidation and exit meeting with the Lt Gen Wasim Alamgir, HI (M), Vice-Chancellor, NUMS. Dr. Farrukh Idrees, expressed his appreciation for all the efforts to organize the successful IPE activity and highlighted the institution's commitment to improving medical education and healthcare facilities in Pakistan. He stated that NUMS, is playing a leading role in medical research and that projects such as the NUMS Institute of Advanced Studies and Research (NIASAR) and the upcoming NUMS Medical City are evidence of its efforts to reshape healthcare landscape to meet international standards.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed his gratitude for reassuring him on the satisfactory functioning of university as per HEC defined criteria and presented a souvenir to Dr Farrukh Idrees as a token of appreciation. A group photo concluded the SIPE activities 2022-23.
