In the first quarter of 2025, the National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) successfully executed the week-long 'Capacity Building Program for University Management.' The National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE-HEC) organized and sponsored this groundbreaking initiative. This training program aimed to empower the university management by equipping them with multiple managerial and leadership skills.
The program, facilitated by five NAHE-Approved Resource Persons, provided targeted training to 29 administrative staff members, including two Assistant Directors, 14 Managers, and 13 Assistant Managers from diverse fields and disciplines. The diverse cohort also included female participants and members of different sects and ethnicities, reflecting a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in professional development. The five-day training program addressed critical managerial areas essential for administrative excellence in Higher Education Institutions, including leadership, policy and strategy, business communication, interpersonal skills, financial management, and procurement planning.
The Closing Ceremony of the program was presided over by the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academics) – Maj Gen Farrukh Saeed, HI (M), (Retired). Program Coordinator for NAHE, HEDP-HEC – Mr. Tahir Abbas Zaidi – the Deans, Directors, and other administrative officials of NUMS also attended the ceremony. Addressing the gathering, Mr Tahir Abbas Zaidi commended the National University of Medical Sciences for their unceasing dedication to fostering the Continuing Professional Development of its managerial staff. He emphasized the significance of the training program in advancing the quality of higher education in Pakistan. Furthermore, he praised Ms Saba Stephen, NUMS' Training Coordinator, for her tireless efforts in ensuring gender balance and diversity that aligns with the United Nations' SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). Lastly, he assured the participants that HEC, through NAHE, is committed to sponsoring ventures that will contribute to institutional growth in the future.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academics) expressed gratitude to NAHE-HEC and all stakeholders for their instrumental contributions. He acknowledged the efforts of the NCL team, NUMS' training coordinator, supporting directorates and departments of NUMS, NAHE's resource persons, and training participants for their dedication to the training event's success at the University. He underlined the initiative's transformative impact and highlighted NUMS's commitment to medical and health education excellence. Later, he awarded the Certificates of Completion to the program participants.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Air Commodore Muhammad Ismail, SI (M) (Retired), Consultant Quality Assurance/Head of NUMS Center for Lifelong Learning and Resource Development Directorate. He expressed gratitude to NAHE-HEC for their visionary support in advancing professional development and enhancing higher education standards in Pakistan. He also acknowledged the administrative directorates of NUMS for their efforts in successfully organizing the five-day event.
