The Department of Biological Sciences at NUMS (NDBS) is an interdisciplinary department committed to offering high-quality educational programs in niche areas of biosciences and providing diverse research opportunities to investigate and solve some of our society's most pressing scientific problems.
The department intends to offer a doctoral program in biological sciences (Doctor of Philosophy in Biological Sciences) in order to prepare aspiring future biologists by equipping them with research skills and innovating thinking necessary to understand and carry out research in different domains of biological sciences ranging from basic to applied and translational research.
The discipline of biology, which study life and living organisms has emerged into a multidisciplinary field of science and engaged with advancing our understanding and solving society problems in health, biodiversity, environment, food and energy security and new tools for testing and diagnosis.
CGPA Requirement:
a. Sixteen/Eighteen years of education in relevant field with minimum CGPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0 in the semester system) or First Division (in the annual system) in the most recent degree.
b. Testing Requirement. Admission test will be taken as per HEC policy. A graduate admission test (GAT) General / GRE/ University 4 c. Academic Statement of Purpose. Each applicant must submit an Academic Statement of Purpose (ASOP).
The Academic Statement of Purpose helps the admission committee understand student’s academic objectives and determine whether he/she has the potential to be successful in this program. Unless otherwise noted 1-2 pages in a standard font and size is typical.
The Statement of Purpose should have four sections, though they don’t need to be clearly defined as sections in the document and can take on the more natural feel of a letter:
1) Academic & Professional Preparation
2) Focused Interest in the Field
3) Career plans upon completion of the program
4) Any relevant strengths or weaknesses in background or ability to carry out professional responsibilities
