MS Bioinformatics

Mission:

This program is designed in accordance with the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan's framework for the MS Bioinformatics program. The degree program is intended to provide our postgraduate students with the opportunity to gain advanced bioinformatics knowledge required for a researcher to interpret and decipher the information embedded in complex biological processes. We hope that our program will provide a research-based educational platform for researchers, where students will be provided with cutting-edge facilities and opportunities to meet national and international research standards, as well as to implement novel approaches to solving unsolved puzzles in life sciences.

The Bioinformatics program at NUMS is a unique opportunity for students to immerse themselves in an interdisciplinary field that integrates biology, computer science, and information technology. Our curriculum is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in both the biological and computational aspects of bioinformatics. Hands-on research experience will enable students to apply concepts and methods learned in the classroom to real-world problems. Students in this program will have a wide range of specialization options to choose from, allowing them to tailor their education to their career objectives.

Our Bioinformatics program's faculty is made up of distinguished researchers and educators who are experts in their fields and are dedicated to preparing students for successful careers. Their research interests are diverse and encompass a wide range of areas such as computational medicinal chemistry, comparative and evolutionary genomics, drug design, next-generation sequencing and its applications, forensic human identification. With the rapid advancement of technology, the amount of biological data being generated has grown exponentially. Bioinformatics provides cost and time-effective approaches and tools for handling, analyzing, and interpreting large and complex sets of data, which is a skill that is in high demand in today's data-driven world. With its interdisciplinary nature, application-driven approach, data-intensive focus, constant evolution, and collaboration opportunities, our Bioinformatics program is distinctive from other disciplines and provides students with a diverse range of skills and knowledge that are highly sought after in today's job market worldwide.

With the use of information technology, Bioinformatics has added a new dimension to the study of biology and the analysis of biological data. Numerous Universities in Pakistan provide bioinformatics programs at the graduate and post-graduate levels in order to meet the demand for Bioinformaticians, increasing job prospects for Bioinformatics in Pakistan. NUMS Department of Biological Sciences is also offering a Master’s Degree program in Bioinformatics. There is a significant need for candidates in the field of bioinformatics, thus there are many career prospects available after completing these programs. The graph of the global demand for bioinformatics employment over the previous year’s reveals a rising trend in the number of bioinformatics positions all over the world.

The field of bioinformatics offers suitable employment opportunities in a range of healthcare organizations, pharmaceutical firms, data science firms, research and development labs, and businesses involved in biotechnology, drug development, bio-analytics, proteomics, clinical research, and pharmacogenomics.

  • Sixteen years of education in the relevant discipline from HEC recognized institute
  • NUMS entrance test 50%
  • NUMS interview
