The mission of MS Biotechnology Program at the Department of Biological Sciences at NUMS is to produce qualified and skilled manpower (scientist/experts) in their respective areas of specialization in biotechnology through advanced teaching-learning and transferring technical skills to postgraduate students essential for success in the industrial, biomedicine, and food biotechnology sectors.

The diverse discipline of Biotechnology provides unique opportunities for the exploitation of biological systems and research to explore the fundamental life processes for the benefit of mankind. Biotechnology has wide applications in diverse fields such as Biomedical Engineering, Diagnostics, Drug Discovery, Biosensors, Veterinary, Agriculture, Food and Pharmaceutical industries, etc. The developed and developing countries across the globe are heading towards biomedical opportunities through this diverse discipline in a very short time. The MS Biotechnology program at NUMS will be run by young and energetic Ph.D. faculty with vast research and teaching expertise. The research is application-oriented in the field of Biotechnology for commercialization such as the production of antibodies and vaccines, medical diagnostic kits, identifications of novel biological and pharmaceutical compounds, innovations in plants, animals, food technologies, etc. The NUMS postgraduate research labs are equipped with state-of-the-art scientific instruments and tools suitable for academic and innovative researches in the field of biotechnology.
