MS Phytochemistry and Natural Products

Mission:

The aim of the Master’s Program in Phytochemistry and Natural Products is to train highly-skilled experts to succeed in both academic and no-academic positions. Our mission entails provision of new generation of scientists with a solid broad-spectrum background in the disciplines dealing with chemical, biological, phytochemical, and technological aspects of drugs discovery from natural sources.

What makes the program unique?

This MS degree program is first of its kind offered in Pakistan which encompasses the expertise in theory and research employing multi-disciplines approach including phytochemistry, natural product chemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, ethno botany, microbiology and bioinformatics. The program include an advanced course work followed by cutting edge research work, designed to equip students with theory of medicinal natural products. The program applies a practical approach, offering training research related skills in the field of drug discovery and product development from plants and natural sources for the treatment of both infectious and non-infectious diseases. The students will be able to develop require expertise to use appropriate methodologies to solve novel and emerging problems related to natural products and phytochemistry. Additionally, the program enables students to address the potential therapeutic actions of different phytochemicals/products, their side effects, interaction with other herbs or drugs and to evaluate these products in clinical setting and industrial scale production.

Admission Criteria/Eligibility:
  • Candidate with sixteen years of education from HEC recognized institutes/international recognized institutes with background in the following subject areas, Biosciences (Plant Sciences, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Biotechnology, Microbiology), Pharmaceutical Sciences (Pharm D, B. Pharm), Chemical Science (Natural Products Chemistry/Organic Chemistry), Health Sciences (Medicine, Herbal/Traditional Medicine, Veterinary Medicine)
  • NUMS Entry Test 50% score
  • NUMS interview
