Professor Wasim Alamgir was commissioned into the Army Medical Corp in Dec 1985 after passing out from Army Medical College Rawalpindi. He completed his internship at Military and Combined Military Hospital Rawalpindi, followed by a two-year stint in AJK near the Line of Control as an officer in charge of an Advanced Dressing station and as an RMO of a deployed Infantry Battalion. He completed his Fellowship training in General Medicine from Military Hospital Rawalpindi and CMH Quetta between 1990 and 1993.
He qualified for his FCPS in 1994 and served in small military hospitals in NWFP and then in Federally Administered Tribal Areas till 1999. He trained at London Hammersmith Hospital for the next two and a Half years; while there, he obtained his MRCP UK and MRCP Ireland in 2000 and also qualified for a Diploma in Cardiology with a mark of distinction from the Imperial College of Science Technology and Medicine. On return to Pakistan, he served as a Consultant Neurologist at two large Aye Class Military Hospitals in Kharian and Multan from 2002 to 2010. He was appointed Head of the Department of Neurology, MH, Rawalpindi, in 2010 and was instrumental in starting a stroke service with thrombolysis as one of the pioneer institutions.
He was conferred with FRCP in 2012, followed by FACP. He remained Head of the Department of Medicine CMH Quetta from 2013 to 2016. He was a key team member in organizing mass disaster and trauma response services during the upsurge of terrorist activities in the city. He was posted to Military Hospital Rawalpindi and made Advisor Neurology to Surgeon General in 2016. He was again instrumental in visualizing and practically setting up a Neuro-interventional center in MH. During the COVID pandemic, he was the Head of the Department of Medicine at PEMH Rawalpindi. He was involved in developing protocols and hands-on management of the patients in the largest COVID treatment center in the Federal Capital Territory and Pakistan Army. He subsequently was promoted and served as Director of General Medicine in GHQ Rawalpindi in 2021.
He is a professor of medicine and neurology and a member of the faculty of neurology at the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. He is an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians Membership exam and part of the editorial board of multiple scientific journals.
He was promoted to Lieutenant General in January 2022 and has worked as VC NUMS since. His focus remains on promoting education and research in all healthcare domains, especially Paramedic and Nursing training, along with investment in the areas of Clinical Trials, Data Mining in the Healthcare field, Indigenous Vaccine Development, Plasma Derived Medicinal Products, and promotion of pharmaceutical industry by developing a BA/BE Centre. The General has been awarded Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military) for his meritorious services.
Pro Vice Chancellor
Major General Farhan Tuyyab, SI(M), HI(M), Retd is Highly accomplished and seasoned cardiologist with over 35 years of experience in the Army Medical Corps, which culminated as Professor of Cardiology/Medicine. He has been actively involved in teaching both under and postgraduate students at multiple institutions. During service, the general officer has been Commandant of Army Cardiac Centre Lahore and Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology, Rawalpindi.
With over 50 publications in national and international journals, he is a 1987 graduate of Army Medical College having done FCPS (Medicine), FCPS (Cardiology), FRCP (Edin) with training in Interventional Cardiology from London, Cardiac CT training from Monaco/France and Cardiac MRI training from Berlin, Germany.
General officer has been member, Faculty of Cardiology, College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) and Vice President and Chairman, Scientific Council on Interventional Cardiology, Pakistan Cardiac Society.
Director General (Administration)
Major General Ijaz Ahmad, HI (M) joined Pakistan Army on 12 January 1992 in 45 Field Ambulance (64 Medical Battalion) Peshawar. The Officer is a graduate of one of the leading and prestigious medical universities of Pakistan "The Khyber Medical College, Peshawar University". After completion of basic military training from Army Medical Corps Centre at Abbottabad, he completed his Unit Command Course at Armed Forces Medical Institute Rawalpindi in 2005 and did his Masters in Public Health from University of Health Sciences, Lahore in 2007. Later on he completed his Masters in Medical Administration from Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad in 2013. The General Officer has the honour to be the First ever GDMO selected for OJT abroad and has done on job training in Health Care Administration from United Kingdom.
Major General Ijaz Ahmad, HI (M) has served on various Command and Staff appointments. He served as a General Duty Medical Officer at 64, 75, 69 and 8 Field Medical Battalions at Peshawar, Quetta, Sialkot and Chorr respectively. He has also served on Secondment to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at Najran Military Hospital from 1996 to 1999. As a health Care Administrator he served as Deputy Assistant Director Medical Services, HQ Log Area Peshawar and HQ Log 11 Corps Peshawar, Regimental Medical Officer, 648 Mujahid Battalion Lipa, Azad Kashmir, Commanding Officer Combined Military Hospital Dera Nawab, Assistant Commandant Combined Military Hospital Bahawalpur and Combined Military Hospital Rawalpindi, Assistant Director Medical Services at Medical Directorate, Commandant Frontier Corps Hospital Baluchistan, Director Medical Services at Medical Directorate General Headquarters Rawalpindi, Commandant Army Medical School, Centre & Record Wing Abbottabad and Commandant Combined Military Hospital Abbottabad. Director General Medical Services at Naval Headquarter Islamabad, Pro-rector Health Sciences at Bahria University Islamabad and Director General Members Reforms Committee (DG MRC) at Adjutant General's Branch.
He has also participated in various military exercises and trainings. He was part of Pakistan Humanitarian Relief Mission to Indonesia (Banda Ache in Dec 2004 Tsunami) and he also participated in Oct 2005 Earthquake relief work in Kashmir. It is worth mentioning that General Officer volunteered to rescue causalities from Siakargri Post situated at 23000 feet in Boltero Sector in 1993 and earned respect and "Good" name for AMC.
Presently the General Officer is serving as Director General Administration at National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS).
Executive Director (Research & Commercialization)
Saleem Ahmed Khan is a Professor and senior consultant in hematology with a special interest in transfusion medicine. He graduated from Army Medical College Rawalpindi in 1983 (3rd MBBS course) and was commissioned as Captain in the Pakistan Army. After completing his house job at CMH Lahore, he served as a General Duty Medical Officer and underwent four-year hematology training at AFIP/CMH/MH, earning his FCPS in 1994. Mr. Saleem served in Bosnia on a UN mission in 1995 and in Saudi Arabia (1997-2000). On return to the country, he served as a specialist and instructor at service hospitals and institutes. He commanded AFIT Rawalpindi (2009-2012), transforming it into a state-of-the-art blood transfusion facility.
As a HoD hematologist at AFIP, he developed molecular and forensic sciences departments. He earned his PhD in hematology from Riphah International University in 2013 and was awarded FRCP (Edin) in 2015. A supervisor and examiner for M.Phil, FCPS, and PhD in hematology, he has trained numerous residents and presented extensively at national and international forums. Promoted to Major General in 2016, he served as Principal of Army Medical College, transforming it into the top medical school certified by PMDC.
A former PMDC councilor, he is currently Dean of Hematology CPSP and President of the Pakistan Society of Hematology. After retiring in 2020, he joined NUMS as Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academics) and, since July 2023, has served as Executive Director of Research & Commercialization at NIASR. He is heading upcoming NUMS projects, including the Bio Equivalence Center, Clinical Trials Unit, Plasma Derived Medicinal Products, and Biologics Manufacturing Center. For his meritorious services, he was awarded Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military).
