On 30 October 2025, the 5th Meeting of the NUMS IRB & Ethical Committee for Clinical Trials was held at 1030 hrs in the VC Conference Room, NIASR Rawalpindi, under the chair of Maj Gen Farhan Tuyyab, HI(M) (Retd), Pro VC (Academics), NUMS. The meeting was attended by the following members:

The agenda of the meeting was to review and provide ethical oversight for two clinical research studies presented by their respective PI(s). The committee examined the scientific rationale, proposed methodology, diagnostic criteria, and participant-management plan for each study. The members discussed the clarity of study objectives, the relevance of clinical procedures, data-recording methods, and the level of compliance with institutional and regulatory standards. Attention was given to ensuring that participant safety measures were adequately described and that all documentation supported consistent and responsible study implementation.

During the meeting, the committee shared observations to strengthen procedural transparency and enhance the quality of protocol execution. On 04 September 2025, the 4th meeting of the NUMS IRB & Ethical Committee for Clinical Trials was held at 1030 hrs in the NRFC Sectt Rawalpindi under the chair of Maj Gen Farhan Tuyyab, HI(M) (Retd), Chairman NUMS IRB & EC / Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academics), and attended by the following members:

The agenda of the meeting was to review and provide ethical oversight for two clinical research studies presented by their respective PI(s). Each study was evaluated for scientific merit, participant safety, documentation quality, and compliance with NUMS ethical and regulatory standards. Members discussed research justification, risk–benefit assessment, proposed methodology, data-management procedures, and overall regulatory adherence.

The committee approved the studies after detailed deliberation, with recommendations provided where necessary to strengthen methodological clarity, enhance ethical documentation, and ensure accurate clinical assessment. The PI(s) were advised to incorporate the suggested improvements and submit any revised materials to the IRB Secretariat before proceeding with further stages of the research.

On 12 June 2025, the 3rd Meeting of the NUMS IRB & Ethical Committee for Clinical Trials was held at 1200 hrs in the NIASR under the chair of Maj Gen Farrukh Saeed, HI(M) (Retd), Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academics), NUMS. The meeting was attended by the following members:

The Institutional Review Board (IRB) held a meeting to review three clinical research studies submitted by their respective Principal Investigators. The purpose of the review was to ensure that the proposed studies meet required ethical, scientific, and regulatory standards before moving forward.

During the meeting, committee members carefully reviewed each study with a focus on participant safety, research quality, and proper documentation. Discussions covered the purpose of the research, possible risks and benefits, study methods, data handling, and compliance with NUMS ethical guidelines.

After detailed discussions, studies were approved. The committee also provided recommendations to improve clarity in the study methods, strengthen ethical documentation, and ensure accurate clinical assessments. The researchers were advised to address these recommendations and submit updated documents to the IRB Secretariat before continuing with the next stages of their work.

The 2nd meeting of the “NUMS IRB & Ethical Committee for Clinical Trials” was held on 26 March 2025 at 1100 hours at the NUMS Research Facilitation Centre (NRFC), NUMS Secretariat, Rawalpindi. The meeting was chaired by the Chairman NUMS IRB & Ethical Committee / Pro VC (Academics), Maj Gen Farrukh Saeed, HI(M) (Retired). The following officials were present in the meeting:

The meeting commenced with a welcome address by the Chairman NUMS IRB & Ethical Committee, followed by a brief overview of the agenda by the Secretary. The committee proceeded with the review of 2x clinical research projects/studies submitted for ethical consideration and approval.

Following detailed presentations and discussion, both clinical research projects/studies were approved.

The meeting was chaired by the Chairman “IRB & Ethical Committee for Clinical Trials”, Maj Gen Farrukh Saeed, HI(M) (Retd), Pro VC (Academics), NUMS. The session commenced with a formal welcome by the Chairman “NUMS IRB & Ethical Committee for Clinical Trials”. An introduction of all members followed by a comprehensive presentation on the IRB processes and functions at NUMS was presented by the Secretary “NUMS IRB & Ethical Committee for Clinical Trials”. The agenda for the meeting included the review of a clinical trial research project submitted for ethical oversight and approval.”

After a thorough discussion, the project was approved with the recommendations to enhance ethical compliance and procedural clarity. Key suggestions focused on ensuring participant safety, minimizing potential biases, and improving the overall methodology of the study. This meeting set a significant precedent for overseeing clinical trials at NUMS, ensuring regulatory adherence and participant safety while fostering a collaborative and transparent review process.
