Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC)

Research is the primary function of the medical university towards creation of new knowledge, discovery of new drugs, clinical trial, improvement in diagnostics, innovation in techniques and instrumentation all over the world. The office of research, innovation and commercialism has been established in NUMS to develop a dynamic and internationally competitive research in medical science to improve the health care in Pakistan. In pursuit of this mission the research office has the responsibility of guaranteeing that all research programs and policies reflect the core values of academic freedom, professional integrity, ethical conduct and full compliance with all policies, legal requirements and operational standards of the University.

Promotion of research in basic and applied medical science are the core strategy of NUMS. The ORIC will provide operational support to the University’s research activities/program, and will have a central role in facilitating the University’s research outcome. All faculty members and postgraduate students shall actively involve themselves in R&D in the field of medical research for promotion of health care system in Pakistan. NUMS shall encourage the research in constituent and affiliated institutions through the provision of necessary resources and facilitating the faculty/postgraduate students to apply for research grants to HEC and other donor agencies.

The research office will oversee the support, management and efficient utilization of resources for the promotion of medical research in the colleges and institutes of the University. In order to develop NUMS into a true centre of excellence, it is imperative that apart from maintaining high standards in medical education, research in the relevant field of medical science is rigorously pursued. The ORIC is also responsible for assuring that the quality of research reflects the highest international standards and advances the stature of the University among the world’s best research institutions.
