The Institutional Review Board and Ethical Committee (IRB & EC) has been established at NUMS ORIC. The Institutional Review Board and Ethical Committee (IRB & EC) meetings shall be held on a monthly basis or as per requirement.

1st Full Bench Meeting, NUMS Institutional Review Board and Ethical Committee (NUMS IRB & EC)

The 1st Full Bench Meeting of NUMS IRB & Ethical Committee for CRASH-III & HALT-IT Clinical Studies, chaired by Chairman IRB & Ethical Committee Maj Gen (Retd) Muhammad Aslam, was held on 08 Nov, 2017 at PDC NUMS from 1100 to 1200hrs. Following members attended the subject meeting;

CRASH-III & HALT-IT clinical studies were presented. After each presentation, the committee members provided comments and recommendations and an extensive discussion with pros and cons associated with the points raised by IRB & Ethical Committee members adjacent to both CRASH-III & HALT-IT clinical studies took place depending on which, the subject meeting was concluded with a decision.

The honorable Chairman welcomed the members of IRB & Ethical Committee. After introductory session of the members, the Secretary IRB & Ethical Committee delivered a presentation on IRB functions and processes at NUMS. 4x research studies were presented by their Principal Investigators;

Following each presentation, the committee members provided comments and recommendations. They focused on ethical considerations, research methodology, data collection, potential risks to human and animal participants, and suggestions to enhance the practical impact of the research.

These comments and recommendations were diligently recorded and shared with the researchers to enable the them to make necessary revisions and improvements to their research proposals.

After each presentation, the committee members engaged in an in-depth discussion and analysis, offering invaluable feedback and recommendations. Their focus was on various critical aspects, including ethical considerations, the robustness of research methodology, the efficacy of data collection, identification and mitigation of potential risks to human and animal participants (as relevant), and suggestions to elevate the practical significance of the research endeavors.

The comments and recommendations were documented and promptly shared with the respective researchers. providing them with the essential insights needed to refine and enhance their research project/studies.
