About

Background

Climate change is one of the biggest existential threats to the world today, and Pakistan is amongst the countries which are most vulnerable to this threat. Educational institutions are also expected to rise up to these growing challenges as part of their environmental and social accountability. Realizing this role and being aware of the daunting challenge of climate change, a group of self-motivated NUMS faculty, staff and students, volunteered to set up NUMS Environmental Stewardship Committee (NESC). This committee received full support from the entire NUMS community as well as its leadership and senior management.

Student Wing of NESC was later renamed as Green Youth Movement (GYM) Club, a Government initiative being implemented in the Universities through Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC).

A Green office, NUMS Office of Environmental Stewardship (NES) was established that took up Project Zero Waste NUMS as its first initiative.
