After the successful conduct of three NEB exam cycles during 2017 & 2018, National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) conducted step III of PM&DC National Examination Board (NEB) examination for foreign medical and dental graduates as part of 2019 NEB cycle 1. The examination (OSCE) was held respectively on 21st & 22nd September 2019 in the OPD complex of Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Rawalpindi while Armed Forces Institute of Dentistry (AFID), Rawalpindi hosted the dental graduate exam.
A total of 796 candidates; 794 medical and 02 dental graduates appeared in the exam during the two-day event. The exam for the medical graduates was conducted over 4 sessions (two sessions per day) during which 400 graduates were examined. Each of 10 enclosures had 15 examination stations interspersed by 5 rest stations making a total of 20 stations per enclosure. An intervening break of 90 minutes between the two sessions each day was observed for tea followed by session two and concluded with lunch at the end for the examiners and staff.
A total of 400 PM&DC approved clinical faculty from across the country were invited for the OSCE out of which an elite panel of 161examiners from all disciplines was finalized to conduct the OSCE. Besides this, 76 invigilation staff, 52 administrative staff and 57 standardized patients also contributed to make the event a success. A feedback proforma was served to each candidate and majority conveyed their satisfaction over the arrangements.
Vice Chancellor NUMS, Lieutenant General (Retd) Syed Muhammad Imran Majeed and Pro-Vice Chancellor Major General (Retd) Muhammad Aslam along with other officers visited the examination venue and were briefed by Controller of Examinations, Brigadier (Retd) Muhammad Saifullah Butt on the professional and administrative arrangements and the overall conduct of the examination.
Three-step NEB Exam is being conducted by NUMS on behalf of PM&DC since 2017 to assess the professional competence of foreign medical & dental graduates. NEB is a compulsory exam for foreign qualified medical and dental graduates of Pakistani origin for their registration with PM&DC.
