NUMS’ Faculty Development initiatives at affiliated institutes

NUMS faculty development program 2018 was launched by HPE under the auspices of Academic Development, for the faculty of constituent and affiliated colleges of NUMS. The program is designed to introduce the faculty to fundamentals of teaching and learning and quality assurance in assessment. The first component of the faculty development program included onsite workshops that spanned over 2018. The second component included visits to affiliated institutes to facilitate maximum participation, build bridges and associations with NUMS affiliated institutes.

In the second component, 2/3 days workshops were conducted on “Achieving outcomes through instructional strategies that promote active learning”, and “Quality assurance in written assessments” at Multan, Bahawalpur and Wah stations. The workshops were facilitated by Additional Directors HPE-NUMS Dr. Ayesha Rauf and Dr. Rukhsana Ayub, Assistant Deans of Curriculum and Assessment respectively. The sessions included hands on activities, role plays, minilectures and interactive exercises.

All host institutes extended gracious hospitality, appreciated the initiative, and were found to be receptive to reform, with progressive ideas.  The sessions were appreciated by the leadership as well as the multi-disciplinary basic and clinical science faculty. Learning experiences were shared and discussions, brain storming and evidences helped clear misconceptions and reinforce basic concepts. The faculty members of all institutes were motivated towards curriculum reform and professional development.

Towards this and KIMS, CIMS Kharian and HITECH will be visited in the immediate future.
