After the successful conduct of NEB exam cycle 2017, the National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) conducted step III of PM&DC National Examination Board (NEB) examination for foreign medical and dental graduates as part of 2018 NEB cycle. The examination (OSCE) was held on 26th & 27th January 2019. The OPD complex of Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Rawalpindi while Armed Forces Institute of Dentistry (AFID), Rawalpindi hosted the dental graduate exam.
A total of 1,092 candidates; 1,083 medical and 09 dental graduates appeared in the exam during the two-day event. The exam for the medical graduates was conducted over 4 sessions (two sessions per day) with each session being held at 10 enclosures simultaneously. The examination for 9 dental graduates was held in the morning of 26th January 2019 (Saturday). Each enclosure had 15 examination stations interspersed by 13 rest stations making a total of 28 stations per enclosure. After each hour, a six-minute stretch break for the examiners was also catered for. An intervening break of 90 minutes between the two sessions each day was observed for prayer and lunch for the examiners and staff.
Out of 1,083 medical graduates, 1,039 (95.94%) were declared successful while 100% of the dental graduates passed the exam. A feedback proforma was served to each candidate and majority conveyed their satisfaction over the arrangements.
A total of 800 PM&DC approved clinical faculty from across the country were invited for the OSCE out of which an elite panel of 201 examiners from all disciplines were finalized to conduct the OSCE. Besides this, 106 invigilation staff, 58 administrative staff and 52 standardized patients also contributed to make the event a success.
Vice Chancellor NUMS, Lieutenant General Syed Muhammad Imran Majeed and Pro-Vice Chancellor Major General (Retd) Muhammad Aslam visited the examination venue and were briefed by Controller of Examinations, Brigadier (Retd) Muhammad Saifullah Butt on the professional and administrative arrangements made and the conduct of the examination.
