HEC-Need Based Scholarships (NBS) are awarded to the talented youth who lack the resources to reach up to their maximum potential. In this kind endeavour of HEC, NUMS also awarded HEC Need-based scholarships to 8 underprivileged students in the HEC-NBS Phase I.
With the same spirit, applications were invited via an advertisement on NUMS official website at the end of March 2019. The application deadline was April 30, 2019. By that date, 54 applications were received from the Constituent Colleges of NUMS which include Army Medical College, Armed Forces Post Graduate Medical Institute (AFPGMI) and NUMS Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences.
Among those 54 applicants, 44 candidates were initially short-listed. Later on, keeping the availability of funds in mind, 14 candidates were invited for interview on July 4, 2019. All efforts were made to ensure that the most deserving students get the need-based scholarship and could continue their degree to completion.
The interview panel consisted of Pro Vice Chancellor of NUMS, Maj. Gen. (Retd) Prof Muhammad Aslam; Provost Quality Assurance and Resource Development (NUMS), Prof Dr. S. Mahmood Raza; Representative of Commandant AFPGMI, Brig. Salman Ahmad; Representative of Principal Army Medical College, Brig. Syed Hussain; Principal Fazaia Medical College, Maj. Gen. (Retd) Salman Ali; and Publisher/Editor of Gwadar News, former Managing Director of Pakistan Television, Mr. Sajid Mansoor Qaisrani and Director of Resource Development Directorate, Mr. Shaikh Muhammad Ali respectively.
13 candidates were selected after the interviews representing all four cadres i.e. 10 Students from BS Programs, Medical Lab Technology and Cardiac Perfusion from AFPGMI; 1 student each from Bachelors in Social Sciences of Health (BS-SSH), Bachelors in Dental Sciences (BDS) and Bachelors in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS).
The Scholarship will include their full tuition fee and a stipend of PKR 6,000 each month. It will continue throughout their degree program depending upon their yearly academic performance. Students will be duly informed and scholarships will be awarded as soon as the official proceedings are complete.
