Mr. Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, Federal Minister for Science and Technology visited National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) on 4th July, 2019. Lt. Gen. Syed Muhammad Imran Majeed, HI (M), Retd the VC and the Minister, discussed current healthcare issues and challenges in the country and role of NUMS in improving the situation through provision of quality healthcare education, healthcare facilities, research and innovation.
Vice Chancellor NUMS explained that in order to help bring in appropriate quality healthcare, in accordance with the best international standards and practices; the National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) is looking beyond education, training and research, by actually incorporating an adjunctive university-run healthcare system. Furthermore, the importance of knowledge, technology transfer from leading centres of the world with a view to indigenize research infrastructure and capacity building was also emphasized upon.
Vice Chancellor NUMS also discussed major projects with the Federal Minister including provision of high quality healthcare in a cost-effective manner through a comprehensive integrated healthcare delivery system in the form of NUMS Medical City. Subsequently NUMS Institute of Advanced Studies & Research (NIASR) comprising Bio-Equivalence Centre and Clinical Trials Unit will also come up.
Federal Science and Technology Minister showed huge interest in NUMS and its future plans and assured that his Ministry will fully support the development of these projects.
