A delegation headed by Prof. Rusli, Head of Medical School at Taylor’s University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia visited National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) on Wednesday, December 04, 2019. Primary objective of the visit was to discuss various possibilities and explore new avenues of academic and research linkages between the two universities.
Pro Vice Chancellor Maj. Gen. (Retd) Muhammad Aslam led the NUMS team in the absence of VC and briefed the delegates about the vision, mission and role of NUMS in the Healthcare sector of Pakistan. A brief overview of NUMS healthcare model, upcoming endeavors in healthcare delivery system, NUMS Institute of Advanced Studies & Research (NIASR), Medical City to be established in Sector I-17 inclusive of potential for Medical Tourism were also presented through a short video documentary.
Prof. Rusli introduced Taylor’s University and highlighted its various aspects specially schools of Medicine, Pharmacy and Nursing. He also spoke about various prospective areas of collaboration with NUMS including joint ventures in diversified fields such as joint supervisors for post-graduate research, adjunct faculty, visiting faculty, exchange programs for students as well as researchers and joint grants for research projects especially in the field of Public Health to multiply happiness among masses. Partnership in the fields of Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and research in Pharmaceutical Industry also came under discussion.
Brig. (Retd) Mowadat H. Rana Chief Editor Journal of Pakistan Psychiatric Society strongly recommended a joint collaboration between the two universities in the area of Behavioral Science through Life Skills programs and integrated credit transfer/ CGPA adoption.
An Expression of Understanding (EoU) will be signed by both institutions shortly to initiate formal working on the areas that came under discussion. Souvenirs were exchanged at the end of the meeting.
