Our country, in its glorious past has had many heroes and idols who dedicated their life’s work so that we could live in a sovereign nation. One such hero was Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the poet of the East. To pay a tribute to Iqbal’s efforts, Annual Iqbal Day 2019 was held at Army Medical College organized by the Amcolians Debates and Literary Society (ADLS). The chief guest of the event was Brigadier retired, Professor Dr. Waheed-uz-Zaman Tariq.
The Event was held on 8th November 2019 in Ayub Auditorium. The event started with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Cadet Abu Bakar of 42nd MBBS followed by the National Anthem which renewed everyone’s zeal and zest. This was followed by a Bait Bazi Competition that had the audience on the edge of their seat. It was a fierce competition and was ultimately won by 42nd MBBS. The following segment was a speech that reminded everyone of the tests and tribulations of the Muslims in their efforts for a separate homeland and also laid the prologue for a play performed by cadets. The play revolved around the life of a young boy, his questions about the lost values of the Muslim youth and his quest to find the answers in the philosophy and poetry of Iqbal. The play was well portrayed and was commended by the audience and the chief guest alike. The play ended with a Milli Naghma and it instilled in everyone a new spirit of patriotism. Lastly there was a segment of Shikwa and Jawab-e-Shikwa that portrayed the eloquent and flamboyant poetry of Iqbal and his answers to the dilemma that Muslims face as a nation.
The event was a success and was appreciated by the audience, the administration and the faculty. Principal Army Medical College, Maj Gen Saleem Ahmed Khan HI(M) congratulated all the cadets on a sublime performance and a marvelous show. The Chief Guest closed the event with his flawless knowledge of Iqbal and his admiration and acknowledgement for the event.
Army Medical College kept its tradition alive by organizing an event that would remind everyone of our eminent past and renew our spirits and love for the homeland. The cadets of Amcolians Debates and Literary Society under the supreme leadership of Brig. Khadija Qamar will continue to keep their heritage alive by orgainsing debating and literary events in the future.
