OFFICES OF RESEARCH, INNOVATION & COMERCIALIZATION

The administrative structure of the ORIC with the key appointments is as follow:

Director: Manage and enhance the research activities of the university, develop research policies and priorities, and serve as an effective advocate for research with the university and to its broader community of stakeholders and supporters.

Manager of Research Operation: Responsible to oversee all aspects of the operation of the ORIC including research administration (budgeting, auditing and accounting, human resource, management and maintenance of facilities and scientific equipments, implementation of research contracts.

Manager of Research Development: Develop research programs and activities that will increase funding for research from all public and private sources, establish and maintain excellent relationships with donors and stakeholders, oversee proposal development and submission.

Manager of University-Industrial Linkages: Promote the development of public-private partnerships in support of university research; link the university’s researchers with the needs and priorities of the corporate sector for applied medical research.

OBJECTIVES:

The main objective of the establishment of the ORIC is to develop, expand, enhance and manage the university’s research programs to link research activities directly to the educational, and health priorities for the community. Research represents one of the most dynamic elements of the NUMS enterprise with further objectives to:

  • Develop research policies and guidelines for NUMS
  • Ensure high quality research in the medical institutions for better health care
  • Improve integration of research and education at all levels of the students.
  • Improve translation of research into the public benefit
  • Generate research funds through sponsorship by national  as well  as international  donors agencies for up-gradation of research laboratories at constituent institutes
  • Establish  research collaboration  with  other  universities and  research  centers 
  • Encourage and assist NUMS researchers in obtaining research grants from the Public / Private Sector and Foreign Agencies
  • Monitor research integrity and assist in achieving compliance as per approved research protocol
  • Assist in budget development and post-award audit; and account close-out.
  • Facilitate timely completion of funded research and development projects
  • Encourage human resource development in biomedical research through short-term visiting fellowships and practical training in the relevant academic institutions.
  • Provide experts and support for conference, seminars and workshops for faculty and postgraduate students.
  • Co-ordinate placement of NUMS students for their practical training and education with relevant organizations.
  •  keep  the  NUMS  faculty  abreast  of  the  latest  developments  in  their respective areas of specialization by providing digital libraries 
  • Disseminate   research   findings scholarly work through conferences and publications in the medical journals.
  •  Promoting entrepreneurship, technology-transfer and commercialization activities that energize and support the local and national need
  • Prepare an annual review of research activities of NUMS.
