Molecular Medicine

Pakistan is facing a significant burden in both infectious and the non-communicable diseases. We have numerous families and individuals suffering from genetically inherited disorders.  Exposure to environmental toxins, pesticides, and other carcinogens is leading to alarming increases in malignancies while the onslaught of infectious diseases such as hepatitis, dengue, tuberculosis, malaria is increasing day by day.

Molecular biology and genetics, closely interconnected to all areas of medicine, is poised to have a profound impact on human health. It is not only contributing to the understanding of the fundamental basis of human disease but is also becoming an invaluable tool in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease.

We, at NUMS, will cater to the research needs of our constituent and affiliated institutions and foster collaborations with local and international researchers in the following areas of research:

  • Genetic basis of disease
  • Precision medicine/pharmacogenomics
  • Infectious diseases
  • Immunology
  • Cancer biology
  • Epigenetics
  • Clinical nutrition/Nutrigenomics
  • Drug design
