NUMS Multidisciplinary Department successfully organised an open house entitled “Translational Research at NUMS” on Tuesday, 5th December 2017. Faculty members and students from NUMS constituent institutes, Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP), Army Medical College, Armed Forces Post Graduate Medical Institute (AFPGMI) and Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) along with senior faculty and research students participated in the session.
The purpose of the open house was to motivate healthcare providers for research and innovation in the medical field and to promote collaboration among clinicians and researchers. The participants were enlightened about innovative ideas, research methodologies and ongoing research projects at NUMS. The biotech company, Alpha Genomics, was also invited to educate the participants to revolutionize healthcare by bridging gap between academia and industry in Pakistan. NUMS faculty discussed eight major research areas including epidemiology, recombinant DNA technology, infectious disease research, disease genetics, proteomics and disease, drug discovery, vaccinal approaches and nanomedicines.
Vice Chancellor NUMS, Lt Gen Syed Muhammad Imran Majeed HI (M) highly appreciated the activity and encouraged the faculty to concentrate their efforts on drug and vaccine indigenization.
The open house provided a platform for introducing advanced techniques and methodologies in medical research, and encouraged collaborative efforts between clinicians and researchers to cope with the major health issues in Pakistan.
