National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) celebrated ‘International Nurses Day’ at NUMS’ Secretariat, Rawalpindi on 14th May 2018 to acknowledge and appreciate the arduous role of nurses in delivering quality healthcare services and their tireless commitment to the patients.
Dr. Rafat Jan, Dean of Nursing, NUMS invited nurses from all Armed Forces Institutes, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Isra Medical University, Shifa International Hospital, Khyber Medical University and Holy Family Hospital to grace the event.
In her welcome note, Dr. Rafat Jan recalled the purpose of celebrating International Nurses Day every year all around the world, and shared that the importance of the contributions made by nurses in healthcare delivery system cannot be denied. The theme of the day, ‘A voice to lead - Health is a Human Right’ was enunciated and Dr. Rafat Jan ensured that NUMS realises the importance of nurses as best instrument to promote healthcare, prevent illness and achieve optimal recovery from or adaptation to health problems.
During her lecture, she emphasized that nurses are the backbone of healthcare services delivery system and NUMS has taken valued initiatives to plan advanced curriculum for nurses and train them for the future adjunctive role like Advanced Practice Nursing (APN). The aim of these initiatives is to provide them prospective opportunities and enhance society's trust in them.
Vice Chancellor NUMS, Lt Gen Syed Muhammad Imran Majeed HI(M), appreciated the efforts of nurses in complete patient care and emphasized the importance and need for continuous education for nurses. He emphasised that society should provide due place and honour to the nurses.
