National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS), Rawalpindi conducted the National Examination Board (NEB) exam for foreign medical graduates under the auspices of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC). In 2017, the exam was organised in three steps and a total of 4,288 students appeared in NEB exam. Step-I was held on 16th March 2017 and 2478 students appeared in the exam. Step-II was held on 4th May 2017 and 1,024 candidates appeared in the exam, while Step-III was held on 15-16th July and 22-23rd July 2017 respectively and 786 students appeared in Step-III.
After successful execution of NEB exam in 2017, NUMS was entrusted by PM&DC the responsibility to conduct Step-I for NEB exam this year, which was held on 15th April 2018 at Army Medical College, Rawalpindi and Pak-China Friendship Centre, Islamabad. A total of 3,128 students appeared in the NEB exam, where 3,105 students appeared for MBBS NEB exam and 23 students appeared for BDS NEB exam.
Through an act of parliament, in 2012, it was made compulsory for the foreign graduates to pass the NEB exam before being allowed to practice in Pakistan. The exam was organised and carried out by following the prescribed rules and regulations.
The candidates had a positive feedback about the NEB exam, where some of the students shared that the exam was well-managed and well-conducted and appreciated the efforts of NUMS to have introduced a fair and impartial examination system.
The President and members of PM&DC including Vice Chancellor NUMS inspected the examination centres and deeply appreciated the efforts of Principal/ Vice Principal Army Medical College, Controller of examination NUMS and staff of PM&DC to have a fool-proof conduct observing the decorum of a good examination system. The necessary arrangements of the Day care facility (for mother candidates/invigilators) and waiting halls for parents/guardians were applauded. The result of the NEB exam will be declared shortly.
