A Jordanian Delegation headed by Maj Gen Nassar Al Athamneh, COS of Strategic Planning & Defense Resources, Jordan Armed Forces visited National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) for evaluating the possibilities of establishing mutual collaborations in the fields of Research, Medicine and Allied Health Sciences on 17th April, 2019.
Provost QA & RD Prof Mahmood Raza led the NUMS team in the absence of VC and briefed the delegates about the vision, mission and role of NUMS in the Healthcare sector of Pakistan. A brief overview of NUMS healthcare model, upcoming endeavors in healthcare delivery system, NUMS Institute of Advanced Studies & Research (NIASR), Medical City to be established in Sector I-17 inclusive of potential for Medical Tourism was also presented. Furthermore, he highlighted various possible avenues of collaboration with Jordan including, joint workshops/ seminars, students & faculty exchange program and joint research programs.
Maj Gen Al Athamneh, the Jordanian Chief expressed the desire replication the NUMS model in Jordan to meet the rising need of healthcare service delivery to a population of over 10 million people. He also invited NUMS delegation to visit their Medical Cities in Jordan, at a mutually convenient time in near future. The delegation was provided with a copy of the NUMS Act to fashion their proposed Medical University as per NUMS’ management model and also the proposed blending of teaching/ learning with applied research.
NUMS senior management also demonstrated keen interest in learning about the King Hussein Medical City, Bioequivalence and Clinical Drug Development Centres. The session ended with the hope of making the bond stronger between the two brotherly countries.
