Army Medical College Debate and Literary Society (ADLS) organised Iqbal Day event on 17th Nov 2017. Maj Gen Saleem Ahmed Khan graced the occasion as the chief guest. In spirit of great reverence to the national poet, the event commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Cadet Zargham (40th MBBS) followed by the national anthem. Ahmed Bilal (38th MBBS) conducted the ceremony followed by Shahbakht Aftab (40th MBBS) later as the event progressed.
The first performer of the event; Mudassir Illyas (40th MBBS) mesmerized the audience with his melodious voice as he presented Iqbal’s kalaam “Pareshan houn kay meri khaak”. A documentary was presented to highlight the personal aspects of the great poet’s life, his intrinsic role and efforts for the creation of a separate homeland. Hamza Aslam (40th MBBS) in his eloquent and captivating Urdu speech warmed the hearts of the audience as he discussed the effects of Iqbal’s poetry on the youth and the analogy of “Shaheen”.
In an enthralling skit, Fahd Farooq Ashraf (38th MBBS) and Hamza Aslam played the roles of Satan and Angel Gabriel, and narrated couplets from Iqbal’s famous work of poetry “Jibreel-o-Iblees”. The audience was spellbound as Iqbal’s powerful words resounded throughout the auditorium. The play ended with a brief dialogue of Satan with Allah Almighty voiced by Mohib Shamoon (38th MBBS).
Shehryar Zameer and Rafiya Sibtain (40th MBBS) highlighted Allama’s idea and levels of “Khudi” (self) in a comprehensive presentation as perceived by Iqbal.
The Chief Guest; Principal Army Medical College, Maj Gen Saleem Ahmed Khan addressed the audience and reiterated the importance of ideas presented by Iqbal and their relevance to the modern age today. He commended the performers and organisers for arranging such a successful event and displayed his approval for such enriching experiences in the future as well.
