PhD Anthropology (Focus on Health)

Anthropology is the study of cultures and societies from local people’s perspectives. Furthermore, it is interdisciplinary and holistic in its approach and integrates analysis of the biological, environmental, psychological, economical, historical, social and cultural conditions of humanity.

About the Program


The aim of offering PhD in Anthropology is to understand all those aspects that influence health and wellbeing. Today’s health professionals need to know how disease and illness are viewed in different parts of the world, how evolutionary theory can inform our understanding of health and disease, how treatment and medical interventions vary between cultures, and how cultural forces impact individual health. The PhD degree in Anthropology aims to equip the students with a specialized understanding of anthropology relevant to their medical and health based research areas. The essence of the program is an intense, interdisciplinary research to understand the socio-cultural dynamics of illness and health care in Pakistan though intensive research.

This program is unique as it focuses on informed cultural understandings of health, illness, human universals and differences for contribution to diverse communities.

Eligibility Criteria


  • MS/MPHIL (2 years) degree or its equivalent in Behavioral/Social Sciences from HEC recognized university with CGPA 3.0 out of 4.0 (Semester system) or 60 % marks in annual system
  • GAT subject test (Social Anthropology) with minimum 60% marks OR NUMS Admission Test
