MPhil Anthropology (Focus on Health)

Anthropology is the study of cultures and societies from people’s perspective. Furthermore, it is an interdisciplinary and holistic in its approach and therefore integrates analysis of the biological, environmental, psychological, economical, historical, social and cultural conditions of humanity.

About the Program


The aim of offering MPhil in Anthropology with a focus on health, is to understand all those aspects that influences health and wellbeing. Today’s health professionals need to know how disease and illness are viewed in different parts of the world, how evolutionary theory can inform our understanding of health and disease, how treatment and medical interventions vary between cultures, and how cultural forces impact individual health The MPhil degree in Anthropology aims to equip students with a broad, general understanding of anthropology and how it might be applied to medical and health-related problems. The essence of the program is an intense, interdisciplinary research to understand the socio-cultural dynamics of illness and health care in Pakistan though intensive research.


Vision/Mission of the Program


This program is unique as it develops a fundamental understanding of the substantive knowledge based on medical anthropology, with an integrated and holistic vision of health.
What is Unique about this Program?


Field Work: Social sciences and specifically the discipline of anthropology employ the participant observation based field work as a research method to study human beings in their natural environment. Students from all academic programs will have platforms in the form of assignments, thesis or projects to experience hospital or community setting in which to conduct their research.
Eligibility Criteria


  • MA/MSc/BS (4-years) degree or its equivalent in Behavioral/Social Sciences from HEC recognized university with CGPA 3.0 out of 4.0 (Semester system) or 60 % marks (Annual system)
  • GAT (General) with minimum 50% of cumulative score OR NUMS admission test
  • Interview
